How We Rate AI Tools

419 tools analyzed with rigor and transparency

🎯 Our mission

AI Lexicon evaluates 419 artificial intelligence tools across 20 categories, with 80 detailed comparisons. Our goal: help you choose the right tool for your needs, with full transparency.

Every review is written by our editorial team, not generated by AI. Ratings reflect human evaluation based on objective, reproducible criteria.

📏 The 4 scoring dimensions

Each tool is evaluated on 4 independent axes, scored from 0 to 5:

Quality

Raw performance of the tool in its domain. Reliability of results, accuracy, execution speed. A chatbot is judged on response relevance, an image generator on visual quality.

🔗

Integration

Ease of integration into an existing workflow. Available API, native connectors (Zapier, Make), data import/export, compatibility with other tools. The easier a tool integrates, the more useful it is daily.

🛡️

Trust

Data management, transparency and compliance. European hosting, clear GDPR policy, training opt-out option, open source code. This is the most critical dimension for companies subject to GDPR and the AI Act.

💰

Value for money

What you get for your money. A free tool with solid features scores high. An expensive but irreplaceable tool does too. We penalize opaque pricing and artificial limitations on free plans.

🏅 Quality badges

Badges are awarded automatically when a tool exceeds a specific threshold. No manual nomination, no favoritism:

🔒 Trust & data

Each review includes a "Trust" section with verified factual indicators:

🏢 Headquarters — Country of incorporation (jurisdictional impact)
🌐 Hosting — Server location (EU, US, etc.)
🇪🇺 GDPR — Declared compliance with European regulation
🔓 Open Source — Accessible and auditable source code
🚫 Training opt-out — Ability to prevent your data from training the model
🇪🇺 EU Option — European hosting or legal entity
⚖️ AI Act levelClassification under the European AI regulation

This data is factual, not opinion. When information is not publicly available, we indicate it.

✍️ Editorial process

Each review follows a strict protocol:

  • 5 pros, 3 cons — Cons help choose, not flee. Maximum 1 privacy-related con.
  • No version numbers — Content is durable. We say "ChatGPT's latest models" not "GPT-4 turbo".
  • Price ranges — Prefixed with ~ to indicate approximation. Prices change, orders of magnitude persist.
  • Jargon translated — Every technical term is followed by its translation in parentheses.
  • Bold editorial opinions — Our verdicts are editorial. If a tool has a known privacy issue, we say it.

🤝 Independence

AI Lexicon receives no payment for its evaluations. No tool can buy a better rating or priority placement. Affiliate links, when present, are clearly identified and never influence editorial content.

Our business model relies on content quality and reader trust, not on tool publishers.

📊 The comparison radar

Each comparison includes a 5-axis radar chart to visualize the relative strengths of two tools. Here's an example with ChatGPT and Claude:

Rating Popularity Features Platforms Value
ChatGPT
Claude

The 5 axes: Rating (overall score), Popularity (adoption), Features (richness), Platforms (availability), Value (worth).

❓ Frequently asked questions

Each tool is evaluated on 4 independent dimensions (quality, integration, trust, value for money) scored from 0 to 5. The overall rating is a weighted average. All 419 tools are re-evaluated regularly.

Our editorial team, not AI. Each review follows a strict protocol: 5 pros, 3 cons, bold editorial verdict. Content is reviewed and verified before publication.

No. No payment is accepted to modify a rating, badge or verdict. Badges are awarded automatically based on objective thresholds. Our independence is non-negotiable.

Reviews are updated when a significant change occurs: new pricing, major feature, trust incident. We don't modify reviews for minor version updates.
